Woblitzsee

The Woblitzsee or Woblitz (from " Voblica " = Slavic for " Big Water " or " Big Pond ". ) Is a lake northeast of the town of Wesenberg in the district Mecklenburg Lake District Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.

Description

The Woblitzsee is traversed by the river Havel, in the northwest, coming from the Grand Labussee, and opens to the south leaving the lake to nearly 4 kilometers at Wesenberg to the southeast. The chamber passage opened in the northeast of the lake, connecting the Woblitzsee with the Zierker lake at Neustrelitz. Another, but less important of those tributary is the Floßgraben which flows the small lake area at the nature reserve Kalkhorst drained ( Deep Trebbower lake and flat Trebbower Lake ) to the west and south of the settlement Voßwinkel in the eastern part of Woblitzsees.

The Woblitzsee is part of the 97 -kilometer-long federal waterway Upper Havel Waterway ( OHW ) of the waterway class I, which begins at the north end of the lake Zierker; responsible is the Waterways and Shipping Office Eberswalde.

Appearance

The lake consists of two large, each about 2.4 km long lake basin, the northeastern Basin and the slightly smaller south-western basin. Both parts of the Woblitzsees are through the neck ( locally named in Low German as " Hälsing " ) connected to each other. At its narrowest point, the lake is only 300 meters at its widest about 1.6 kilometers wide.

Economy

In the 19th century - and until the middle of the 20th century - could be observed on this lake an active waterway. Wood, partly in rafts, coal and grain were transported on barges on this lake. For woodworking on the banks of Woblitzsees originated in Wesenberg near two sawmills. In 1959, the expansion began in the timber industry, which was put into operation in 1962 and existed until 1990 /1991.

Tourism

For tourism, the Woblitzsee has from 1980 gained ever increasing importance. On the north bank is located at the confluence of the Havel Camping Havelberge. Furthermore, the operation of water skiing is possible along a path on the northern shore. Compared to the shoreline provides the Woblitzsee outside the camping park only a few beaches.
