Wolf-Dieter Storl

Wolf -Dieter Storl ( born October 1, 1942 in Saxony, near Ansbach ) is a German - American cultural anthropologist, ethnobotanist and author.

Life

Storl grew up in Germany. The age of eleven he had to say goodbye to his grandparents and his aunt, who lived on the siding in Crimmitschauer freight station (DDR ). With his mother, he went to Oldenburg, where they met with the returned from captivity father. Together they traveled to Bremerhaven and boarded a so-called " emigrant steamer" to emigrate to "America ": " For me as an eleven year old, it was a trip that should never end " (Wolf -Dieter Storl ). From New York they traveled by rail to Ohio and were met by relatives living there. The father soon found a job as stationmaster of a freight station and Wolf -Dieter was included in the new country in the fifth grade. He prefers lived in nature and roamed through the forests. Here he discovered his interest in plants and herbs as well as to the ancient and powerful trees:

" I realized that people the world divided into two sides: There was on the one hand, the nature, the wilderness, the evil - and on the other side of the civilization that ordered world, the good. As I had thrown away the baseball bat, I had - opted for the Wild, for the untamed nature - without that it was aware. From now on, I spent every spare minute in the forest, in the great outdoors. There was a universe to explore. "

He studied botany at Ohio State University. The laboratory did not satisfy him, and so he switched to ethnology. At age 24, after completing his studies, he was a full-time assistant professor of sociology and anthropology at Kent State University. Then he wrote his dissertation at the University of Bern. By his own admission he wrote this on a proposal of his PhD in English, because his German was very poor at that time. In 1974 he received his Ph.D. Dr. phil. ethnology. This was followed Lehraufanthalte in Vienna, Oregon, Geneva and Wyoming. With his wife, but he moved into a foreign land. They lived - after spending time in Bangladesh, Burma, Thailand, China and Japan - for nearly two years in India. In 1988, she did not return to his second home in the U.S. back, but settled down for the time being in the East Frisian peat. Later, they found a secluded hotel in the Allgäu region in which they relocated.

The ethnobotanist and cultural anthropologist Storl entered as a book author in appearance and was invited to televised debates. He held as head of seminars, workshops and herb walks. Therefore, he also gets invitations to international conferences and symposia. However, his theories on natural healing are controversial. In particular, his book of course heal disease, a disease of the Storl himself suffered.

Storl is married to a U.S. citizen from Wyoming. Together they have a son and a daughter. Your house in the Allgäu is a purpose-built in 1188 and lying hidden in the forest former knight's seat.
