Life

1970-1974

Wolfgang Ambros ' career began at the age of 19 years with the publication of the written Joesi Prokopetz songs of Da Hofa 1971. The song then in Austria rose immediately from 0 to 1 and stayed for 8 weeks for this position. As time there was no official sales charts, was the Ö3 - charts as a guide. A year later he released his debut album Everything else is secondary net more ... out, which still could not achieve great successes. With other singles like Kagran and I wiry zua he could not build on the success of his first single also. It was not until the appearance of reveille, which is directed against the Austrian Army and the Secretary of Defense Lütgendorf, caused quite a stir in Austria and was boycotted by the ORF.

Ambros worked at the beginning of his career, often together with Prokopetz and Manfred diving. The most famous work of the trio is the rock opera The watzmann calls, which is still performed today.

1975-1979

The nearest commercial success should come only in 1975 with the single Tweaks mi 's - another number one hit. Also, the accompanying album Long live the Zentralfriedhof could reach unexpectedly Place 1. The eponymous song, which was indeed not released as a single, yet is still regarded as characteristic hymn of peace under Ambros fans. The text is the equality of man show ( and for that the dead people were taken as an example ). From this point Ambros established himself the star of the Austrian rock scene. A few years later came another song on the market, which should be another anthem - Schifoan. Initially, the song was barely successful and was not played on public radio. But then the winter season was also this song become a hit among après ski goers.

From the year 1978 played Wolfgang Ambros his solo concerts with his band The No. 1 from the Vienna Woods, consisting of the following musicians: Günter Dzikowski (keyboards (including Hammond B3 ), accordion, harmonica, vocals), Peter Koller ( guitar, vocals ), Helmut Pichler (bass, saxophone, vocals) and Harry Stampfer ( drums, vocals ).

By the year 1985 Helmut Nowak played drums and was succeeded by Harry Stampfer ( previously inter alia Hallucination Company).

One of the most legendary concerts of Wolfgang Ambros & The Number One from the Vienna Woods include, inter alia, the concerts in the Vienna West Stadium (Gerhard Hanappi Stadium ) 1983 ( where they were supported in part by Rain Fendrich and Opus in front of 20,000 fans ) and also the rock on the Rocks in the glacier Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun / Austria, 1985, which set a world record held for a long time as the highest-altitude open-air rock concert.

1980-1989

Also in the first half of the 80s both Ambros ' singles as well as his albums were great successes and milestones of his career. With some of his album he could reach the German charts. In the 1980s Ambros also took several titles on together with André Heller. The hit Forever Young, the having him covered by Bob Dylan's Forever Young and sang with Heller, was played frequently on anti-government demonstrations.

In the second half of the 1980s Ambros became more and more out of the limelight. He made rather with private scandals than with his music headlines. With the release of the album The greatest hits from 20 years in 1992, he remembered back to previous successes and was able to connect with the album also on this.

1990-1999

The mid-90s there was a big reform program in public radio stations, as private radio stations were legalized. The station Ö3 has been converted to a format of radio, alternative programs have been expanded to FM4 and cultural programs to OE1. The important thing was that dialect music could now be played exclusively on regional radio stations. Thus Ambros, decided to publish no more singles, and was better able to concentrate on his albums. The result is albums like Equator, waterfall or Neglected but free, which is solid and sell each achieve top ten rankings.

2000 to today

A highlight was the new interpretations of Tom Waits songs on his album After me the deluge - Ambros singt Waits ( 2000). In 2002, the live album appeared hopelessly self-conscious, with the Ambros came up in the top ten of the album charts. Even with the following albums Ambros was represented regularly in the top ten of the album charts: Nameless (2003) made it to fourth place, standing grod (2006) up to second place. Nameless is controversial among fans, because Ambros at the instigation of his record company SonyBMG instead of his regular band began a studio musician for production. In the recording of standing grod the No.1 was there again.

As of 2004, the " watzmann " was played again. Ambros had resisted since the hitherto last tour in the early 1990s against a re-release of " Rustikals ". According to his own statements, the reasons were for each other even in the difficult relationship between the three watzmann - creator Ambros, Prokopetz and diving. While Ambros and Prokopetz were close friends and stayed there have already been the watzmann tour of the early 90s to a rift between Prokopetz and diving, what Prokopetz persuaded not to participate in the performances. His part was taken over by Christoph Fälbl. Diving gave the peasants and the Gailtalerin. During this tour, Ambros and diving over threw together. 2004 Ambros was persuaded to reissue, Prokopetz returned to the ensemble, the part of Gailtalerin took Klaus Eberhartinger ( frontman of EAV), and Christoph Fälbl was seen again as Bua and servant. The plan was initially only five weeks time ( 20 performances) on the floating stage on Lake Chiemsee. At the urging of South German and Austrian concert promoters a city tour around another 20 dates is attached. Further performances were postponed to the year 2005. What was originally planned as a short tour, grew up again to an extended concert tour. End of 2005, finally " the spoon bury " was. But the piece in 2008 and 2009, was back on his game plans of many stages.

The end of 2006 had to be replaced due to illness by Erich Buchebner bassist Helmut Pichler. Officially Erich Buchebner is still " a substitute, " in the band. Since 2007, from the initial root formation of the No.1 only Günter Dzikowski, Peter Koller and Wolfgang Ambros with it.

A milestone in Wienerlied sat Wolfgang Ambros with the CD The old sinner - Ambros singt Moser. On this recordings and also in the subsequent concerts Wolfgang Ambros sings songs such as Phylloxera, in the cellar lanes or blocking hour is, who made popular Hans Moser and his long-time partner Paul Hörbiger, without mumbling or gran stuffs, but with its own distinctive voice, with its own " abusive ".

He was accompanied by the Ambassade Orchestra under the direction of Christian Kolonovits. The idea had Michael Buchmann, founder of the orchestra, or Peter Steinhardt, in his trumpet in the Ambassade Orchestra Vienna. The highlight of the " Ambros singt Moser " phase was certainly the appearance on 24 April 2006 in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. The old sinner with the gold record award - After this concert, the CD was Ambros singt Moser.

Four times Ambros was nominated for a regular Amadeus Austrian Music Award and received it in 2002 for his life's work.

After a very successful autumn tour 2006 ( standing grod ) had to be canceled because of health problems, several media reported in early March 2007 that Ambros was suffering from liver cancer, but this was denied by him. Wolfgang Ambros sued by a lurid made double-sided article about his alleged liver cancer, the news magazine and was awarded 6,000 euros. The money donated to the singer an aid project in Africa. Ambros was forced on the same day public comment by those misguided news article dated 8 March 2007. Ambros made it clear in this statement that as part of a treatment randomly elevated PSA levels were observed. A of this opinion annexed medical bulletin called Ambros ' disease more than " early stage of prostate carcinoma ." After a primary radiation therapy and generally very good chance of recovery Ambros located back on the road to recovery and will 2007 all appointments perceive.

In July 2007, Ambros, Dzikowski & director Rudi Dolezal for DVD production Ambros Pur! awarded a gold record in Austria.

2008 Ambros appeared pure! II and immediately went into the Austrian music video charts. The second edition was several weeks on the chart peak. In addition, the concert evenings proved to be extremely popular with the public.

In the summer of 2008, the " watzmann " on the natural stage of Luisenburg at Wunsiedel was played. The 20 performances were completely sold out. Thus, the " watzmann " became the most successful piece that was ever played on the Luisenburg.

Ambros occurred on the Vienna Danube Island Festival in front of 100,000 listeners on 5 September 2008. The concert was broadcast live on television. When the light turned out during the show on the stage and only got a single spot available, proven Ambros and the band their qualities as experienced live performers and the concert played on an almost unlit stage to end. Time seemed to fit a concert recording of Ambros ' concert on the Danube Island from 2006. Again released immediately rose into the top 10 music video charts. This Ambros was the same with two productions in the top 10

On June 28, 2009 Wolfgang Ambros played on the Vienna Danube Island Festival with the 70 musicians scoring orchestra of the United Stages of Vienna under the direction of Christian Kolonovits, this was his first appearance with symphony orchestra.

The combination of numbers indicates the date of birth of the artist on 19 March 1952, recalled that Ambros celebrated his 60th birthday in 2012. In several interviews Ambros has stated the album would mean actually " birthday ". The number combination appeared to him as symbols of the title " less trivial ". In the 15 songs on the CD he deals inter alia with his children and surviving the disease. The song " Ausg'lacht " was interpreted by some journalists so that this is a settlement with his wife, from whom he lived separately for 2004. This was denied by Ambros, however.

The 2013 runs problematic for Ambros. He limps badly and suffers the consequences of a fall, as he expressed in an interview. During the fall tour 2013 his symptoms are so severe that he can play the performances just sitting, an appointment ( Burglengenfeld, Bavaria ) needs to be moved, as can be read on his website.
