Wolfgang Lackerschmid

Wolfgang Lackerschmid ( born September 19, 1956 in Tegernsee ) is a German jazz musician, bandleader and composer. His main instrument is the vibraphone, but he also dominates many other percussive instruments. Lackerschmid grew up in Ehingen (Donau) and lives in Augsburg, where he also runs a recording studio.

Life and work

Lackerschmid learned piano as a child and guitar and founded the age of sixteen swing and bebop quintet. He then played in the Frederic Rabold Crew and from 1974 with Dieter Bihlmaier, where he focused on the vibraphone. In the same year he started a percussion and composition studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. In 1976, Lackerschmid his Mallet Connection, the guest soloists like Bob Degen, Heinz Sauer or Uli Becker Hoff accompanied and 1978 in the occupation with Leszek Zadlo, Rocky Knauer and Janusz Stefanski and the guest Herbert Joos grossed her eponymous debut album. Previously he was with Karl Berger, David Friedman and Tom van der Geld as Vibe Summit on tour. Increasingly, he achieved fame in the European jazz scene. After the vibraphonist 1980/81 reinforced by his record company Sandra took care of music, began in 1982, the increased co-operation with several formations, such as the Latin group Sinto, the Latin Orchestra of Joe Gallardo, two trios and connection as a separate band projects. Lackerschmid wrote in 1984, the ballet The Fourth World.

Since about 1980, he is also outside Europe on tour, mainly in the United States of America, intensified since 1992. Too, who worked from Augsburg musician works together with his wife, singer Stefanie Schlesinger.

Duets and ensembles

Lackerschmid leads several ensembles as a band or co-leader. Among them are well-known groups such as the band Brazil & Blue with Hendrik Meurkens, Paquito D' Rivera, Romero Lubambo, John Lee and Paolo Braga. Lackerschmid directs his own ensemble survivors chamber music works for new between jazz and classical music and the production and band Franz Grothe jazz standards (funded by Franz Grothe Stiftung ). From 1979, he was in a duo with trumpeter Chet Baker on the way, with Günter Lenz and with Attila Zoller ( 1988-1998 ). Particular attention has been internationally his duets with Chet Baker.

His own Wolfgang Lackerschmid Quartet was announced at the Ehinger Jazz Festival with the flowery words:

Compositional activity

Lackerschmid composed pieces from many areas of jazz. Famous are here certainly his 10 pieces for Chet Baker. But special charm certainly have Lacker Schmid Pinocchio children's musicals, The Wizard of Oz ( premiered in 1995 at the forest stage Sigmaringen village), and Snow White. Ever Lackerschmid often composed commissioned works for theater, film and television.

Music for stage productions

In addition to the works mentioned above Lackerschmid composed for example, for the Augsburg Puppet Theatre ( Papilio, Paula and the box goblins, Norbert neck Dick, The little kangaroo and the scaredy cat, etc.), for the Theater Augsburg ( Faust, Pancomedia, Peer Gynt, among others ) and many more theater productions.
