Active reactors ( gross ):

The South Korean nuclear power plant Wolseong (also called nuclear power plant Wolsong ) consists of four blocks. The location is in the province of Gyeongsangbuk -do. Owned and operated by Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation. It is also near the nuclear power plant Sinwolseong is built.

The units 1-4 are CANDU reactors ( type 6) and were of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited ( AECL ) delivered.

Wolseong 1 carries out about 679 MW. The plant was December 13, 1982 and went critical on April 15, 1983 to the public network. The second block Wolseong 2 has 700 MW. The construction was begun in 1991, the reactor was critical on 1 April 1997 and went June 15, 1997 to the public network. Wolseong 3 was on 20 February 1998 and went critical on 15 June 1998 to the network. This is a 650 MW reactor. Wolseong 4 was born on April 10, 1999 and went critical on 1 October 1999 to the network. Again, there is a 650 MW reactor.

Accidents

  • On October 20, 1994 ran after breaking a valve for two hours heavy water from the reactor Wolseong 1 from. It was the same spot where in December 1994 the valve in Pickering nuclear power plant broke. The incident was rated 2 on the INES scale.
  • On October 4, 1999 22 workers were contaminated when 45 liters of heavy water from the reactor Wolseong expired 3.
