Women in German history series

Women in German history is a German definitive stamp series, which appeared on 13 November 1986 to 16 January 2003. Before the reunification of Germany, the stamps had only in the Federal Republic of Germany and West Berlin validity, since 1990 they are issued throughout Germany. There are a total of 39 values (Berlin: 17).

Description

Each postage stamp of the series shows the portrait of a famous female personality of German history in two-color illustration on white background. The design took the stamp artist Gerd Aretz. The selected individuals are not only German women, as well as the Austrians Lise Meitner and Bertha von Suttner, for example, were devoted to a permanent brand. The name of the country and of the postage stamp is always printed in a different color than the portrait. The stamps were produced as probably the last of the German postal history in elaborate intaglio printing.

The country's name on the permanent marks varies due to the division of Germany and of postal reform:

  • " German Federal Post" from 1986 to 1990 in the " old states " and then in the whole of Germany
  • " German Federal Post Office Berlin" from 1986 to 1990 in West Berlin
  • " Germany " since 1995

The currency on the duration of brands varies due to the introduction of the euro:

  • With a simple indication of currency Pfennig 1986 to 1999
  • Dual currency denomination of penny and Euro 2000-2001
  • With a simple indication of currency in euros since 2002

Striking here is the transition of the denominations of the currency breakdown penny (as part of the Deutsche Mark ) for the main currency ( Euro ), the cents are represented as decimal numbers.

The Berlin editions were valid until 31 December 1991, the West German expenditure in exclusive DM currency until 30 June 2002. Federal German editions with double denomination and currency denomination only in Euro are valid indefinitely. Thus, so eight stamps in the series are still valid for postage.

The marks appeared exclusively in sheet. The first stamps were of the usual form of the arch with 100 marks ( 10 times 10 ) issued, later they went to the so-called sheetlet of ten stamps ( 2 x 5).

To complicate forgeries were provided the paper with colored fibers from 17 July 1997 ( from Michel number 1932) to 8 November 2001 ( Michel numbers 2224 to 2235 ), the same is true for the series of interest.

List of Definitive series

Women in German history of the Federal Republic of Germany ( former West Germany ), including Berlin ( West)

The values of "covenant" and Berlin appeared to the value of 60 cent each time. However, the value to 1.20 DM did not appear in Berlin.

Women in German history of the reunified Germany

Since the postage rates for mail items in the trades in West ( "old" federal states including West Berlin ) and East ( " Lander " ) initially distinguished ( sometimes only half) had some new value levels are produced. Since the different postage rates were quickly partially misused on a large scale, were selbige relatively quickly adapted to the level of traffic area west so many security levels only had a short practical use phase. The brands of the former West Germany were, as far as their value levels still corresponded to the postal needs, also sold in the new federal states.

Women in German history with double currency denomination and with indication of currency only in Euro

The brands with dual currency denomination had after the currency conversion only a short use phase, as proved at the post office in particular the postage rates to 100 Pf / € 0.51 and 110 Pf / € 0.56 to be too expensive. This prompted the German Post AG to a tariff adjustment to " round " charges ( postage rates to 0 or 5 ending ), so that the brand also had a duration series for only a relatively short period of use. The German Post AG offered for this value levels but, to date, unique in the German postal history, large-scale conversion of the old value steps in the new value levels at. The background was that many businesses and individuals had been supplied in the course of the exchange of the old German Mark denominated stamps with the now no longer practicable postage rates.
