Wood Lane tube station

Wood Lane is an aboveground station London Underground in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. It is part of the urban development project Westfield London on the route of the Hammersmith & City Line and is located on the Wood Lane, near the BBC Television Centre. In 2011, 3.44 million passengers used the station.

History

Was opened the station on 12 October 2008. It is located in close proximity to White City station on the Central Line on the opposite side of the street. Transport for London announced that there will be no ticket office due to the huge popularity of electronic ticket Oyster card. Since December 13, 2009 here also keep trains on the Circle Line.

A few hundred meters south, also on the route of the Hammersmith & City Line, was formerly another station called Wood Lane. This was served by the Metropolitan line and had to be closed in 1959 after a fire on the wooden platform.

Architecture

The building, designed by Ian Ritchie Architects and built by the construction company Costain Group station building was built on an irregularly shaped plot of land between the Wood Lane and the metro viaduct. Construction was complex because the building is also located directly above the tunnel on the Central Line, and went largely at night to affect rail operations as little as possible. The building features a 25 -meter-high glass facade, the shell consists of kugelstrahligem stainless steel, with gold anodized aluminum and granite. The station encompasses the metro viaduct, the access to the platforms is via stairs and elevators on both sides of the brick arches.
