World Senior Chess Championship

The World Chess Championship of seniors is a 1991 to be held by the FIDE tournament. Organizer of the first and other Senior World Championships was Reinhold Hoffmann ( ChessOrg ), which is also due to that the senior world champion gets the title of Grand Master.

Survey

In 1997, he presented the honorary plate of the German Chess Federation in recognition of his services to the elderly chess Reinhold Hoffmann von Egon Ditt, the then President of the German Chess Federation. In 1998 he was honored with the award of the Order of Merit. July 2006 he succumbed to a serious illness.

Seniors originally played in the same tournament. Only later, there was a separate championship for women, although women also were allowed to play in the men's tournament. The minimum age is 60 for men ( 1 January date of the game year ), with the women, the minimum age is 50 years. The Senior World Championship will be held as an open tournament with 11 rounds Swiss system. With the title win the award of the Grand Master title is associated since 1997 with the men. The winner in the women receive the title of Grand Master of the women.
