World Series of Poker Europe
The World Series of Poker Europe ( WSOPE ) is the first attempt of the World Series of Poker, outside the United States to establish poker tournaments under the brand WSOP.
Since 1970, poker players had to travel to Las Vegas if they wanted to participate in the World Series of Poker. Although the WSOP tournaments are held at other locations, the main tournaments where the winners get winning bracelets ( bracelet ), were exclusively held in Las Vegas. In the first WSOPE, held in London in 2007, a WSOP bracelet was awarded outside of Las Vegas for the first time.
Since the casinos in the UK are smaller than those in Las Vegas, the number of WSOPE participants is limited. This is the number of participants from more top poker players and amateurs less. For example, in 2007 were players like Tony Guoga, Andy Bloch, Jeff Madsen, Jennifer Harman and Brandon Adams in a "Starting Table" of the WSOPE. On another "Starting Table" met Allen Cunningham, Gustav Hansen, Marcel and Justin Bonomo Lüske each other. Four out of five finalists on the first final table of the WSOPE 2007 had previously won a WSOP bracelet.
Upon completion of the WSOPE 2013 players from 19 countries have won bracelets in Europe. Of these, ten bracelets in the U.S. and four in France. From Germany, a player could with Thomas Bihl (2007) and from Switzerland with Guillaume Humbert (2011) has only ever win a tournament in the WSOPE.
History
In 2004, Harrah 's Entertainment acquired the rights to the brand WSOP. Later Harrah 's London Clubs International (LCI ) acquired the rights. LCI operates three casinos in London - Fifty, Leicester Square, and The Sportsman. After acquiring the casinos to Harrah's took before to bring the WSOP brand to Europe. 2007 World Series of Poker Europe
In the field of marketing, Harrah's did not rely only on their own reputation and that of the WSOP. On 5 July 2007 Harrah's announced the collaboration with the UK-based company Betfair. In 2007, four of the five finalists of the first WSOPE tournaments already won a WSOP bracelet. The first WSOPE bracelet ever went to Thomas Bihl. On the second final table no vormaliger bracelet winner took part, the bracelet won Dario Alioto. At 18 years and 364 days, Annette Obrestad became the youngest player who previously won a WSOP bracelet in the WSOPE 2007 Main Event.
2008 World Series of Poker Europe
2008 WSOPE was supplemented by a fourth tournament and took place in the Casino at the Empire in London's Leicester Square instead. Remarkable happened in the WSOPE 2008 Jesper Hougaard was the first poker player who won both a WSOP bracelet for as well as one for the WSOPE in the same year. In WSOPE Main Event played the likes of Ivan Demidov, John Juanda and Daniel Negreanu. Demidov's participation in the WSOPE final table was particularly noteworthy because it was set at that same time one of the " November Nine " and as a player at the final table of the WSOP Main Event in November 2008. 2011 World Series of Poker Europe
For the first time the WSOPE at the Majestic Barrière and the Le Croisette Casino Barrière was held in Cannes. From October 7 to October 20, seven bracelets were played. The results of the WSOPE be taken into account in the calculation of the WSOP Player of the Year since 2011.
2012 World Series of Poker Europe
In 2012 the WSOPE was again held in Cannes. From September 21 to October 4 seven bracelets were played again. The Main Event Phil Hellmuth won, the first player won so the Main Event of the WSOP and WSOPE.
2013 World Series of Poker Europe
For the first time at the venue of Enghien- les- Bains eight bracelets of 11 October were played on October 25. From 2014 WSOPE will be held in alternate years with the WSOP APAC, so that the next WSOPE will only take place again in 2015.
