Wormerveer

Wormerveer is a village which was an independent municipality in the province of North Holland until the year 1974. It is now a district of the municipality of Zaanstad with 11225 inhabitants.

The name suggests a ferry on the Zaan after Wormer.

Wormerveer is primarily known for windmills, with which oil was pressed. To date, there Wormerveer an oil industry, which awarded the inhabitants of the place also the nickname Straight ears.

They used to stand in Wormerveer a gin and a Grützerei, but these were brought to the museum village in Arnhem in the years 1926/1927.

Rail links

On November 1, 1869 Wormerveer was connected to the Dutch railway network. The train station is on the railway line between Uitgeest and Amsterdam. Currently run from Monday to Friday, four trains a day, two at the weekend.
