Xavier Villaurrutia

Xavier Villaurrutia ( born March 27, 1903 in Mexico City; † December 25, 1950 ) was a Mexican writer, poet and playwright. He belonged to the group of poets Contemporáneos.

Life

Xavier Villaurrutia was born in Mexico City on March 27, 1903 in a middle-class family that used a special inclination towards French culture, a preference that shaped his upbringing, his literary interests and his own work. Villaurrutia belonged to the group of poets " Contemporáneos ". 1936 Villaurrutia writes the screenplay for the film Vámonos con Pancho Villa by Fernando de Fuentes, who was one of the most successful films of the Latin American film history. The Argentine publishing Sur published in 1938 the first edition of Nostalgia de la muerte, the poems are collected in the for the most part he had written in the last 10 years. Around 1940 Villaurrutia writes the foreword to several translations of the works of Paul Valéry, Rainer Maria Rilke and Paul Morand.

On December 25, 1950 Villaurrutia dies of a heart attack. A few days later we talk about suicide. The facts are still unknown.
