Yahya Kanu

Yahya Kanu ( † 1992) was a colonel in the Sierra Leone Armed Forces, Chairman of the National Provisional Ruling Council ( NPRC ) in Sierra Leone from 30 April to 1 May 1992. He was allegedly the leader of coup against President Joseph Saidu Momoh in April 1992 However. His role remains unclear, since he actually was as a friend Momohs and denied any connection to the involved in the coup soldiers. Canoe was arrested a few days later by his successor, Valentine Strasser and detained in Pademba Road Prison.

Canoe and his troops were seen as the backbone of the civil war against the Revolutionary United Front of Foday Sankoh and Charles Taylor.
