Yang Yang (A)

Yang Yang (Chinese杨 扬/杨 扬, Pinyin Yáng Yáng; born August 24, 1976 in Harbin ) is a successful Chinese short track speed skater. In general, they will be listed as Yang Yang (A), to distinguish them from the Chinese short track speed skating athlete Yang Yang (S ) (* 1977). The letter A stands for their birth month of August.

Yang Yang won at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City gold in short track speed skating in races over 500 and 1000 meters, the success of over 500 meters meant China's first gold medal at the Winter Olympics.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Turin in 2006 she carried the Chinese flag during the opening ceremony. In the race over 1000 meters where she won the bronze medal.

Yang Yang is also athletes spokeswoman at the World Anti-Doping Agency and athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play. Since 2010, Yang Yang is a member of the International Olympic Committee.
