Yastreb

Jastreb (Russian Ястреб for hawk ) is the name of a Soviet space suit, which was developed by NPP Zvezda specifically for the Soviet lunar program and early Soyuz missions. This model allows the spacewalk from the orbital module of the Soyuz spacecraft.

The design and development of the suit began in 1966 with NPP Zvezda, with the support of the cosmonaut Alexei Leonov. Leonov had used the Berkut suit during the first outboard activity during the flight of Voskhod 2, and thus had significant problems. The space suit ballooned in space longer than expected and made movements and the return to the ship almost impossible. The new model was much stiffer and used a rope -roll joint system. Large metal rings around the made of nylon fabric undersuit served as an anchor for the upper joints. The suit had a regenerative life support system is in a white metal box mounted on the belly of the suit to allow the movement in the suit. Two astronauts were required to wear.

The Jastreb space suit was used only once in space, as umstiegen in 1969 Yevgeny Khrunov and Alexei Eliseev from Soyuz 5 to Soyuz 4. The next Soviet spacewalk in 1977 the spacesuit Orlan was used.
