Year of the Dog (film)

Year of the Dog is an American film drama directed by Mike White from the year 2007.

Action

The clerk Peggy 's early 40's; her dog Pencil is her closest friend. One day Peggy leaves her dog to run overnight free. Upload eats something poisonous and then dies.

Peggy's friend Leila says Peggy Pencil have deterred to develop a love relationship with a man. Peggy's brother and his wife Bret can not understand the loss. Peggy's neighbor Al arranges to meet her. He tells her about his experiences as a recreational hunter, thereby deterring.

Peggy gets from Newt, an employee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals a new dog, Valentine. She learns Newt know each other and revealed to him that she was in love with him. Newt says he could not relate what Peggy angry. Peggy accuses Al when he stops by a little later, before that Pencil was poisoned by something that I found in The Garage.

Peggy begins to become more interested in animals and for the issue of animal testing. It supports numerous animal welfare organizations with the money they steal their employer. When her boss finds out this, he dismisses them.

Peggy discovered in the garage of her neighbors a toxic substance and attacks it with one of his own hunting knife. The police will be called. Peggy stated that she wanted to Al convey the feeling of being hunted themselves. Your boss promises her to reinstate them if they pay back the stolen money. She gets her old job back and receive a warm welcome in their company. Peggy announces her circle, she would dedicate her life from then on the struggle for the rights of animals.

Reviews

John Anderson wrote in the journal Variety January 21, 2007 the theme of the stricken through their emotional needs people make the film more of a tragedy than a comedy. The " bittersweet " representation of Molly Shannon still make him a " ironic " comedy. The plot is told episodically rather than linear. The camera work was " wonderful" and " subtle ".

Duane Byrge called the film in the magazine The Hollywood Reporter on 21 January 2007 as a " touching comedy" that " appealing sentimentality " without " sentimentalism " show. The representation of Molly Shannon offer the same illuminating insights dark humor as well. Byrge also praised Regina King, Laura Dern and John C. Reilly.

Director Mike White received a nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards 2008 for his film script.

Background

The film was shot in the California cities of Altadena, Los Angeles, Santa Clarita and Torrance. It had its world premiere on 20 January 2007 at the Sundance Film Festival. The film played in the cinemas of the USA, a 1.5 million U.S. dollars.
