Yekaterinoslav Governorate

The government Jekaterinoslaw (Russian Екатеринославская губерния / Jekaterinoslawskaja Gubernija, Ukrainian Катеринославська губернія / Katerynoslawska hubernija ) was a province ( Gubernija / губерния ) of the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union. Capital of the province was the city Jekaterinoslaw, now Dnipropetrovsk in Ukraine.

Geography

The government was in the south and east of the present-day Ukraine. It bordered on the west by the province of Kherson, on the northwest by the government of Poltava, on the north by the province of Kharkov, on the south by the Government Taurien and on the east by the Oblast of the Don Army.

History

Since 1775, the territory of the province was Jakaterinoslaw Province of New Russia Governorate of the Russian Empire, since 1783 was an independent governorship and on 27 February 1802, the Gouvernement Jakaterinoslaw was officially established.

With the establishment of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1922 and the government Jekaterinoslaw was a part of it. After several changes in the administrative structure of the government was disbanded on 1 August 1925 and in its place came the okrugs: Jekaterinoslaw, Zaporozhye, Krivoy Rog, and Pavlograd Melitopol.

Statistics

The government Jekaterinoslaw had until 1887 an area of ​​63,395 km ² and after the Taganrog and Rostov Ujesdy were spun -on-Don, still 56357.37 km ².

The population was in the year 1856 1.039.500 inhabitants and 2,113,674 inhabitants, of whom 80 979 German-speakers in the census in 1897.
