Yekta Güngör Özden

Yekta Güngör Özden ( born December 31, 1932 at the County Niksar / Tokat Province) is a Turkish lawyer and from 1991 to 1998 chairman of the Turkish Constitutional Court.

Career

Özden graduated from high school in Sivas and graduated in 1956 graduated from the law faculty of the University of Ankara from.

On January 11, 1979, he was appointed a full member of Turkey's Constitutional Court, where he was elected on 2 March 1988 Vice President. On 8 May 1991, he was elected president of the Constitutional Court and confirmed on 25 May 1995, a further term. This office he held until January 1, 1998.

He has been working at Ufuk University as a lecturer. He is also the leader of the " Atatürkçü Düşünce Derneği " ( ADD), which organized the mass protests on 14 and 15 April 2007 Ankara with 300,000 participants. Özden is a regular contributor to the anti-government daily newspaper Sözcü.
