Yordanka Blagoeva

Jordanka Blagoewa ( - Dimitrova ) (Bulgarian: Йорданка Благоева ( - Димитрова ), born January 19, 1947 in Gorno Zerowene, Oblast Montana) is a former Bulgarian athlete, in 1972 the world record in the high jump improved by two centimeters.

Career

At the Olympic Games in 1968, Blagoewa could not qualify for the finals as the 17th of excretion. The following year she won at the European Indoor Games in Belgrade with 1.82 meters silver at the same height as the winner Rita Schmidt. At the European Championships 1969 in Athens Blagojewa mastered in qualifying 1.74 meters, in the final she won with 1.68 meters on the 13th and last place.

After it was in 1971 started either in the hall or outdoors in the European Championships, she won with 1.84 meters at the European Indoor Championships in 1972 in Grenoble bronze behind the GDR jumpers Rita Schmidt and Rita Gildemeister, all three medalists jumped in the straddle - style. At the 1972 Olympics in Munich three jumpers crossed the height of 1.88 meters, the German Ulrike Meyfarth and Jordanka Blagoewa without miss, the reigning world record holder Ilona Gusenbauer from Austria was after five failed attempts at four heights also still in the process. On 24 September 1972 the twentieth day following the final in Munich, Jordanka Blagoewa crossed in Zagreb 1.94 meters and improved the world record of Gusenbauer and Meyfarth by two centimeters. Two years later it was replaced by Rosemarie Witschas as world record holder.

On 11 March 1973 Blagoewa won its only international title at the European Indoor Championships. With 1.92 meters, she had six inches ahead of Rita Gildemeister, Milada Karbanová from Czechoslovakia and Rosemarie Witschas.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Rosemarie Ackermann was, as Rosemarie Witschas was called after her marriage, the clear favorite, she had increased in spring in Dresden the world record to 1.96 meters. At 1.89 meters three jumpers were still without mistrial: Sara Simeoni of Italy, Mária Mračnová from Czechoslovakia and Jordanka Blagoewa, Rosemarie Ackermann and the US-American Joni Huntley height had taken in the second experiment. 1.91 meters jumped only three jumpers: Simeoni and Ackermann in the first attempt, Blagojewa in the second experiment. Four years later it tried Blagojewa 1980 in Moscow again, but different than 16 qualifying prematurely.

At a height of 1.75 meters she had a competition weight of 64 kilograms.
