You're the Voice (German: "You're the voice" ) is a pop rock song, which was sung by Australian singer John Farnham. He was released in September 1986 as a single from the album Whispering Jack. The song reached # 1 in Germany, as well as in Australia and some other countries, place 3 in Switzerland and # 6 in Austria and the UK. The song won the 1987 ARIA Award for " Single of the Year ".
History
The piece was written by Andy Qunta, Chris Thompson, Keith Reid and Maggie Ryder and produced by Ross Fraser with John Farnham. After initial successes in Farnham's native Australia, the piece from the beginning of 1987 in many European countries became a hit. Only in the U.S., there was no greater success. Further use
The song was released in 2007 in the movie Hot Rod - Full speed through hell and was also in the soundtrack for the film included. Also in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City it was used.
Cover versions
Among numerous cover versions is that of the German band Blind Guardian on the album At the Edge of Time (2010). The band Heart, published in 1991 a live cover version on their album Rock the House Live!, Which made it to number 56 on the British charts.
