The Jurjusan (Russian Юрюзань; Bashkir Йүрүҙән ) is a left tributary of the Ufa ( and thus part of the Volga - system ) in the European part of Russia.

The name translates as something like " great valley " or " large duct " and comes from the Bashkir language.

Course

The Jurjusan rises in the southern Ural Mountains on the northeastern slopes of the 1,640 m high Jamantau the east of the Republic of Bashkortostan, near the border with the Chelyabinsk Oblast. From there, it flows first to the northeast and reached around 10 km the Chelyabinsk Oblast. Here he takes on the Beresjak, and shortly afterwards turn to the west.

After the confluence of the Kutkurka the river turns north again and reached after a few kilometers, the city closed Trjochgorny and the little northerly town Jurjusan. Then the river again flows to the west, where at Ust- Katav opens the Katav.

About 5 km west of Ust- Katav the Jurjusan again reached the limit to Bashkortostan. Use

Because of the scenic surroundings of the river is a lot of water sports used, among other things, raft and canoe trips. The river freezes between the second half of October and early December, the ice breaks in April. In the ice-free period the river on the lower 10 km is navigable.
