Yusuf Çetin

Mor Yusuf Çetin Filiksinos ( born August 20, 1954 in Kerboran in Midyat, Mardin Province) is a Turkish Metropolitan and Patriarchal Vicar of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Istanbul and Ankara.

Life

As Syrians and Assyrians from the Tur Abdin in Southeastern Anatolia Mor Yusuf Çetin Filiksinos showed at an early age his interest in the Syrian Church. After finishing his education he learned the Syriac language and regularly visited the monastery of Mor Gabriel in his home province - the oldest surviving establishment of the Syrian Orthodox. In 1971 he was ordained a priest at the age of 17, and shortly afterwards he was entrusted with the theology Theology Training the next generation. In 1977 he was consecrated with the title of " spiritual" and received an invitation from Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas to Syria to teach at St. Damascene -Mor Efrem School of Theology. After he had completed his studies with a diploma, he was appointed dean of the school. He is also an alumnus of St Cross College, Oxford.

On September 28, 1986 Mor Yusuf Çetin Filiksinos was raised by the Patriarch to the rank of Metropolitan and assigned to the diocese of Istanbul and Ankara as Patriarchal Vicar. After the twentieth anniversary of his service Antrittes he met Pope Benedict XVI. on its journey in 2006 in Turkey.
