Zapolyarny District

The Sapoljarny rayon (Russian Заполярный район to German Polarrajon ) is an administrative unit within the circle of the Nenets Autonomous in northwest Russia. The Rajon covers the entire territory of the Autonomous Okrug, with the exception of the city of Naryan Mar. The administrative center is the urban-type settlement Iskatelei.

Geography

The Rajon located in the north -west of Russia and covers an area of 170,000 km ². With the exception of the county town of Naryan Mar, Rajon thus covers the entire territory of the Nenets Autonomous district.

History

The Sapoljarny rayon was formed in February 2005 as part of a municipal reform. To the head of Rajon was elected Alexander Besumow in December 2005 and confirmed in a repeat ballot in 2009 in office.

Administrative divisions

The Rajon is in 19 municipalities ( муниципальное образование / munizipalnoje obrasowanije ) divided, one of them gorodskoje posselenije ( городское поселение / urban settlement ) and 18 selskoje posselenije ( сельское поселение / rural settlement ).
