Zelimkhan Chusseinow comes from Dagestan, where he began as a teenager with the rings. Early in his career, he competed for Russia. He concentrated on the free style wrestling at a size of 1.69 meters in the featherweight (weight limit 60 kg). Has been trained or is he of Tezhdi Chusseinow and Firdausi Umudow.

2001 Zelimkhan Chusseinow Russian Junior Champion and then started at the Junior World Championship ( Juniors = age group to age 20 ) in Tashkent. He finished there bantamweight behind Ulan Nadirbek Uulu from Kyrgyzstan and Mohammad Nejad Haghi from Iran to the 3rd place. Somewhat surprisingly, he was then employed by the Russian Federation ringer even in the Senior World Championships in 2001 in Sofia. He arrived there in the bantamweight title victories over Martin Berberjan from Armenia and Sunil Kumar from India. But in his third fight he lost to David Pogosjan from Georgia, so he resigned and finished only eighth place.

In the following years it managed Zelimkhan Chusseinow no longer to qualify in Russia for participation in international championships. But he still started with some big international tournaments and has achieved good results.

In 2008 Zelimkhan Chusseinow therefore decided to change the nationality and to start for Azerbaijan. He therefore joined the Sports Club Ataspor Baku. In 2008 he made it to the Qualifying Tournament in Martigny / Switzerland with a 2nd place in the featherweight Vasyl behind Fedoryschyn from Ukraine for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing to qualify. In the Olympic tournament in Beijing, he lost his first fight against the Russian favorites Mawlet Batirow, then won in the consolation round of Yandro Quintana of Cuba, but lost his fight for an Olympic bronze medal against Morad Mohammadi from Iran. He finished with it in the final accounts a 5th place.

In 2009, he first won in a heavily occupied World Cup tournament in Tehran featherweight before Ewgeni Chawilow from Ukraine and the Bantam weight the Olympic champion in 2008 Besik Kuduchow from Russia. With a lot of self-confidence he went after the European Championship in Vilnius at the start. With victories over Alexandros Pilaridis, Greece, George Bucur, Romania, Malkhaz Kurdjani from Georgia and Adam Batirow that after he went to the starting line a few years for Belarus, competed for Russia again, he proved that this confidence was right and was superior to Europe featherweight champion.

At the 2009 World Championships in Herning / Denmark he won the featherweight about Vitaly Korjakin from Tajikistan, Artur Arakelyan from Armenia, Shogo Maeda, Japan and Dilshod Mansurov from Uzbekistan. In the final he was defeated by Besik Kuduchow, whom he had defeated in Tehran, and thus came 2nd.
