Zell, Carinthia

Cell, Slovenian Sele, is a region in Northern Karawanken bilingual municipality with 608 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Klagenfurt-Land in Carinthia.

Geography

Geographical location

Cell situated in a secluded valley on the north side of the Karawanken at the Slovenian- Austrian border and about 20 km south of Klagenfurt and 6 km south of Ferlach. The altitude of the municipality varies from 587 m ( at the confluence of the Ribnitza with the Huda jama -Bach ) to 2,139 m ( Hochobir ). The main residential area on the valley floor, which runs in an east -west direction, is located at an altitude of about 950 m.

Cell is surrounded by the following mountains: Ferlacher Horn ( Grlovec, 1840 m ) and Freiberg ( Setiče, 1923 m ) in the north, the Hochobir ( 2139 m) and the Cow Mountain ( Kravji vrh, 2025 m ) in the east and the Koschuta ( Košuta ) (turn Košutnikov, 2136 m ) with the Koschutnikturm in the south. The Koschuta also forms at the same time the border with Slovenia.

Cell is divided into three cadastral cell at an angle ( Sele v Kotu ), cell at the parish ( Sele pri Cerkvi ) and cell divided in Sonnegg ( Sele pri Ženeku ). The municipality includes the following 7 villages (population as at 31 October 2011):

History

Cell Mitterwinkel likely to have been settled as the first part of the municipality during the 11th century. It is believed that the first church was built around 1200. A few decades later the first-time documentary mention of Cel (1280 ). In 1492 the current municipality is crossed by Ottoman troops. 1524 reported the oldest surviving " Hollenburger land register " in cell 43 yards. 1630, the managers of two courtyards in Sonnegger area ( Meležnik and Kalisnik ) can be mentioned as the first free peasants.

1787 cell is charged to an independent parish, the formation of the local church cell from the cadastral cell in the parish, at Sonnegg cell and cell angle followed in 1850.

1920 voted cell with 97 % for connection to Yugoslavia. Population

According to the 2001 census, the municipality has 703 inhabitants cell. Of these, 89.1 % gave Slovenian as colloquial, 9.1% were German. Cell so that is the municipality with the highest proportion of Carinthian Slovenes. 98.4 % of the population possess Austrian citizenship.

For the Roman Catholic Church to 98.1 % of the community population profess no religious persuasion are 1.7 % of the population.

Policy

In the Parliamentary elections 2008, there were cell with 25.3 %, the highest share of the vote of the LIF Austria -wide basis while 0.7% the lowest for the FPÖ.

Directly elected mayors is Engelbert Wassner ( SPÖ).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms depicts symbolizes the Silhouhette of Koschuta Massif, which forms the southern boundary of the township, with the Kotschutnikturm as the highest peak. Coat of arms and flag were presented to the community on 26 June 1995, the flag is green and white with integrated crest.
