The Zhejiang University (Chinese浙江 大学/浙江 大学, Pinyin Zhejiang Daxue, English Zhejiang University) is one of the oldest universities in the People's Republic of China. It was first in 1897 as Qiushi Academy (Chinese求 是 书院/求 是 书院, Pinyin Qiushi Shuyuan, English Qiushi Academy ) was founded. Since 1928, it was officially named National Zhejiang University. The University is also known as Zheda or ZJU. The campus is located in the capital of southeast China's Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou, located about 180 kilometers southwest of Shanghai. Zhejiang University is one of the leading research universities in China. It is among one of the nine Chinese elite universities and enjoys a great reputation around the world.
