Zumtobel Group

The Zumtobel Group, based in Dornbirn, Austria, is engaged in developing, manufacturing and sales of lighting technology. The company offers lighting solutions, luminaires, lighting management and lighting components for indoor and outdoor use.

Company Information

In recent years, the Zumtobel Group has implemented major projects such as the lighting of the BMW factory in Berlin and Leipzig, as well as the Airbus plant in Bremen and the new headquarters of the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim.

Furthermore, the expansion of Beijing International Airport in China and in parts of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, the Bolte Bridge in Melbourne, Australia and the Cathedrale la Seu Majorca, Spain has been equipped with innovative lighting solutions. Current project is the new Skylink terminal at Vienna Airport. The EUR 10.0 million comprehensive order is the largest in the company's history.

According to the financial statements as of 30 April 2012 ( fiscal year 2011 /12; each financial year from 1st May to 30th April), sales amounted to EUR 1.2803 billion, the cash flow was EUR 87.7 million, the annual result 16, EUR 0 million and EBIT EUR 34.6 million.

The group is divided into three business groups: Zumtobel Lighting Division 'for the lighting business with the Zumtobel and Thorn brands and OEM brand Reiss Lighting and Tridonic Division for the components business. 2009 was added the LED division in which the previous LED start-ups were combined ( LEDON brand ). LEDON was sold to the Austrian entrepreneur Thomas Lorünser 2013 with retroactive effect from 1 November 2012.

Zumtobel is the European market leader in the field of professional lighting systems and Europe's number two in the field of light components.

The Group has production facilities in Europe, Asia, North America and Australia as well as sales subsidiaries and partner companies in 70 countries.

History

The Zumtobel Group dates back to the year 1950 by Walter Zumtobel ( 1907-1990 ) founded companies electrical appliances and laminated densified W. Zumtobel, which produced ballasts for fluorescent lamps.

In 1953, the Zumtobel Light Profilux was introduced to the market, she won the 1963 Design Award ( FER downlight ).

The company was 1956-1979 licensee of the Light Technology Spezialfabrik Dr. Ing Schneider & Co. It received the 1976 National Award which allows passing the federal coat of arms in the business. In the same year the enterprise was transformed into a corporation.

In 1991 the division into the two business lights (then Zumtobel light) and light components (then Tridonic components ). In 1993, the then acquired the majority of shares in the German Staff Group in Lemgo, 1994, the complete takeover.

In 2000, with the help of an equity partner Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR ) acquired the British Wassall plc and Thorn Lighting Group merged with the lighting business by Zumtobel, the components business of Thorn was transferred to the Division Tridonic.

Since 2005 the LED activities to be developed. The Lexedis Lighting Jenner village was a joint venture for high-power LED light sources from Tridonic Optoelectronics ( a joint venture of Tridonic and Lumitech as well as a spin off of the University of Graz) and Toyoda Gosei founded. LEDON Lamp GmbH ( Dornbirn) is a 100 % subsidiary of the Zumtobel Group for LED applications.

In May 2006 the Zumtobel Group went to the Vienna Stock Exchange. In September 2006 the Zumtobel shares were included in the ATX. KKR sold his after the IPO remaining share of 5.5 percent in December 2006 over the counter to an institutional investor. This was apparently to Delta Lloyd Asset Management NV. In any case, shared Zumtobel on May 11, 2011 in a mandatory announcement on shareholder with that Aviva plc is no longer Zumtobel shareholder after its majority stake was terminated at "Delta Lloyd ". The Zumtobel Group Award ( Zumtobel Group Award for Sustainability and Humanity in the Built Environment) has been awarded since 2007 every two years to architects and engineers, and is endowed with 2012 € 140,000.
