Zwelethu Mthethwa

Zwelethu Mthethwa ( born 1960 in Durban, Natal, South Africa) is a South African photographer and painter. He lives and works in Cape Town.

Zwelethu Mthethwa studied at the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town and thanks to a Fulbright scholarship at the Rochester Institute of Technology. There, he became in 1989 the Master in Imaging Arts. He taught from 1994 to 2000 from the Michaelis School of Fine Art in Cape Town. He became internationally known for his color photographs documenting the lives of residents in the townships.
