Zwolle is a city in Sabine Parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. Covering an area of ​​nearly ten square kilometers, nearly 1,800 people live.

Zwolle is part of the socio-economic region Ark- La -Tex, which includes parts of four states Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.

Geography

Zwolle is in the northwest of the state of Louisiana in the southern United States, about 15 miles from the western border with Texas and 170 km from the northern border with Arkansas. Just west of town is a large, the Sabine National Forest, national lake connects, the extending nearly 100 kilometers along the border with the state of Texas.

History

The first inhabitants of present-day urban area were the Moundbuilders, an ancient tribe of North American Indians. They came here to seek protection from the severe storms in the region and found it in the basin-like shape of the landscape. The inhabitants built mounds and mounds, forming a circle around the present city area along with naturally formed hills.

The first English settlers reached the area about 1824 Natchitoches. They came mostly from Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama and North and South Carolina. 1871 more settlers came and appropriated land.

Arthur Stilwell later built the railroad Kansas City Southern Railroad from Kansas City, Missouri, to the eponymous town of Port Arthur in Texas. When he reached Van Buren, Arkansas, went to him from the funds. He traveled to the Dutch city of Zwolle and met up with his friend, the coffee trader Jan De Goeijen. This was impressed by a Catholic church in the present area and bought shares worth 3 million dollars to allow the continuation of railway construction. As a sign of gratitude was the place that had so impressed him, named after his home and birthplace, and was named Zwolle. The naming certificate was certified on June 12, 1898.

Traffic
