Port Arthur is a city in southern Texas directly on the border with Louisiana.

Port Arthur is located on the west bank of Sabine Lake. The Rainbow Bridge across the Neches River connects Port Arthur to Bridge City.

The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway runs through the artificial island of Pleasure Iceland from Sabine Lake separated, near the town. The Waterway and the island were built 1899-1908 by the Corps of Engineers.

Port Arthur is connected via the Sabine Lake and the Gulf of Mexico. The city has several oil refineries and is an important center of oil processing.

Climate

In Port Arthur has a subtropical climate with mild winters and hot and humid summers. The region is vulnerable to hurricanes. In September 2005, Port Arthur suffered severe damage from Hurricane Rita.
