Zygmunt Pawłowicz

Zygmunt Józef Pawłowicz ( born November 18, 1927 in Gdansk, † March 18, 2010 ibid ) was a Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Gdansk.

Life

Zygmunt Józef Pawłowicz was able to complete his high school education at the Lyceum in Culmsee by the Second World War until 1947. He then entered the seminary of the Diocese of Danzig in Pelplin and received on 20 September 1952, the sacrament of Holy Orders. In 1952 he was assistant priest in the parish in Gdansk Heubude. Since he refused to be put on the list of " patriot - priest ", he had to leave Danzig and was active in 1953 in the Diocese of Kulm Wielle. After a short Vicariate in Tiegenhof he was in Sopot until 1957.

From 1957 to 1964 he worked in the diocesan curia of Bishop Edmund Nowicki as a notary. In 1959, he completed a postgraduate course at the Catholic University of Lublin with a licentiate in theology. He served as secretary of the Synod Commission heavily involved in the Danziger II Synod of 1961.

From 1964 to 1966 Zygmunt Pawłowicz was pastor in Steegen near Danzig, where he a former concentration camp Stutthof was responsible, among other things. From 1966 to 1985, pastor in Danzig- Brösen ( Brzeźno ). From 1971 he was also active in the diocesan administration and was appointed in 1973 to Monsignor. In 1976 he was at the Catholic Academy in Warsaw ( ATK ) with the work " Religious - historical anthropology by Franz Sawicki " Dr. theol. doctorate. In 1985 he habilitated with the dogmatic writing "The doctrine postkonziliarer European synods over the people." He taught from 1974 at the Gdansk seminary fundamental theology, starting from 1990 also the philosophy of religion and dogma and published over 150 papers and more than 20 works.

1985 John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Tamallula and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Danzig. Józef Cardinal Glemp, archbishop of Warsaw, donated to him on September 7, 1985 in St. Mary's Church consecrated bishop; Co-consecrators were Tadeusz Goclowski CM, Bishop of Danzig, and Marian Przykucki, Bishop of Kulm.

In the same year he was appointed Vicar General of the Archbishop Ordinariate of Gdansk. He was provost of the cathedral at Oliva. Zygmunt Pawłowicz was a member of the Commission on the Affairs of the clergy, the Science Council of the Bishops' Conference and Council for Dialogue with Non- believers. In 1990 he became cult commissioner of the Polish Bishops' Conference. 2005 the resignation request was granted on grounds of age.

Bishop Zygmunt Józef Pawłowicz died after a long illness on March 18, 2010. His final resting place he found in the crypt of the bishops of Danzig (former Cistercian monastery church ), present cathedral of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk.
