  • March 26: Virginia Woolf's first novel, The Voyage Out ( The trip out ) appears. He is well received by the critics, but sold poorly.
  • Franz Kafka created in 1912 story The Metamorphosis is published, the White Leaves, edited by René Schickele in the October issue of the journal. The first edition in book form published in December in the series Judgement Day, edited by Kurt Wolff.

Awards

  • The French writer and pacifist Romain Rolland receives " as a tribute to the lofty idealism of his authorship, and for the compassion and truth with which he draws a wide variety of types of people ," the Nobel Prize for Literature.
