1977–78 European Cup (handball)
At the European Cup of Champions 1977/78 took 24 handball club teams from 24 countries participate. These qualified in the previous season in their home countries for the European Cup. In the 18th edition of the competition was with the SC Magdeburg for the third time a team from the GDR win the cup.
First round
With a bye subjected to the SC Magdeburg, ASVS Dukla Prague, Budapest Honvéd, TSV Green-White Dankersen, SoIK Hellas, BC Calpisa Alicante, Fredericia KFUM and Slask Wrocław directly into a second round.

The finale took place in Magdeburg Hermann Gieseler Hall on April 22, 1978.
