2001 CECAFA Cup
The 25th edition of the CECAFA Cup, officially Palmares 2001 CECAFA Championship, took place from 8 to 22 December 2001, Rwanda held. Eleven Central and Eastern African teams played for the title of Eastern and Central Africa champion. Ethiopia won his second title. Sudan withdrew its participation back.

Game Mode
The eleven participating teams from ten different countries played in three groups, each with two groups of four and even three teams. The group winners and runners- qualified directly for the quarter-finals. The two best third- moved after. The two semi-final winners play in the final for the title. The semifinal losers played for 3rd place
