2008 WTA Tour
The WTA Tour 2008 was the 35th year of the women's tennis tournament series, which is held annually by the Women 's Tennis Association. The WTA Tour includes tournaments of different classes, so-called ' animal '. There are animal I, II, III and IV wherein I is the highest category, and IV is the lowest. ITF tournaments are not part of the WTA Tour, the ranking points gained there are, however, still counted for the WTA world rankings.
The team competitions Hopman Cup and Fed Cup are like Grand Slams not organized by the WTA but the ITF. Here they are listed but because the top players play these tournaments usually.

Classification
The tournaments of the WTA Tour are divided into five categories: The most important category is that of the WTA Tour Championships, which only belongs to the final tennis tournament of the year. The other WTA tournaments (English: Tiers ) assigned to different classes.
In the animal tournaments world ranking points will be awarded depending on the class of the tournament and the number of participating players. More important than the animal tournaments are the four Grand Slam tournaments, which are organized by the ITF.
Below the tier tournaments, the ITF also organizes world ranking relevant tournaments.
