2009 AFC Cup

The AFC Cup 2009 is the sixth edition of the Asian Football Confederation ( AFC) discharged AFC Cup. During a restructuring and upgrading of the AFC Champions League for new criteria and the AFC Cup from 2009 receives a different face than in previous years.

Eligible countries

In total, some 32 teams from the associations belonging to the AFC at AFC Cup 2009:

  • Three teams from: Lebanon
  • Each two teams from Bahrain, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Maldives, Syria, Vietnam, Yemen
  • Team each from: Singapore, Thailand, India, Uzbekistan
  • Three losers of the play-offs of the AFC Champions League 2009.

Mode

Because of the changes and innovations for the first time take part in clubs from Iraq and Kuwait. Syrian teams are back in the competition since 2004 for the first time.

Group stage

In the group stage play 32 teams divided into eight groups of four teams in the league mode (outward and return ) to the three- point rule. The teams will be divided on a geographical basis: In groups A to E teams play from West and Central Asia, in the groups F to H to occur teams from East and Southeast Asia. The two group winners will qualify for the Final Round of 16

Final round

The second round will be drawn and resolved in only one game. From the quarter- finals of the tournament winner will be played in the knockout system with return game, the away goals rule. If in the return game and / or final after regular time and extra time are fixed no winner, the winner in the penalty shootout is determined.

For the first time the finals will be played in only one game. The venue is the home of one of the two finalists.

Second round

The winners of the second round were determined only in a game. The games in Western Asia found on May 26, the games in East Asia on 23 June 2009.

Quarterfinals

The first legs took place on 30 September 2009 on 15 September, the return games.

Semifinal

The first legs will find on October 15, the return legs on 21 October 2009.
