29th Chess Olympiad

The 29th Chess Olympiad took place from November 16 to December 4, 1990 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, instead. It was organized by the FIDE and consisted of a men's and a women's competition. In addition still various attractions were held to publicize chess.

Background

It was played in the Spens Sports Center. It was attended by 108 teams participate with a total of 636 players, including 103 grandmasters, 121 International Masters and 67 FIDE masters. Each team played at four boards in the Swiss system, so same number of points possible teams competed against each other. Time controls were after 2 hours for the first 40 moves, then one hour for 20 additional trains.
