Arrondissement of Périgueux

The arrondissement of Périgueux is an administrative district in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region of France.

History

On 4 March 1790, founded with the establishment of the department of Dordogne is also a " district Périgueux ," the lot, however, was smaller than the present district. On February 17, 1800, the district came of it, extended to the districts Excideuil and Mussidan founded. On September 10, 1926 has been extended to the dissolved district Riberac.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the district Nontron, on the east by the district Brive- la -Gaillarde in Corrèze (Limousin ), in the southeast of the arrondissement Sarlat- la -Caneda, to the south by the district of Bergerac, on the west by the arrondissements Libourne in the Gironde department and Jonzac in the department of Charente-Maritime ( Poitou -Charentes ), and on the northwest by the district Angoulême in the Charente, Poitou-Charentes region also.
