Australia and New Zealand Banking Group

The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited ( ANZ) is an international banking company headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. The company is listed on the stock index S & P / ASX 50, which lists the 50 largest companies on the Australian Stock Exchange and is according to the Westpac Banking Corporation, National Australia Bank and the Commonwealth Bank, the fourth largest bank in Australia. The company is listed on the All Ordinaries on the Australian Securities Exchange and the NZX 50 index on the New Zealand Exchange.

The Banks Group, is represented next to New Zealand, where she is by far represents the largest commercial bank with the ANZ National Bank in a further 26 countries in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific, and indicates with its numerous subsidiaries to be the largest Australian bank in Asia and the leading banks to belong to the South Pacific islands.

History

The predecessor of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited ( ANZ ), the Australia and New Zealand Bank Limited ( ANZ). It was founded in London in 1951 by the merger of Bank of Australasia and the Union Bank of Australia Limited.

Before 1951

The Bank of Australasia and the Union Bank of Australia Limited were founded as colonial banks for the colony Australia in 1835 and 1837 respectively in London independently. Another commonality was that they both have their first bank branch in Launceston, then still New South Wales belonging, opened and starter were each facilitated by a takeover of another bank. So took over in 1835, the Bank of Australasia, which was founded in 1828 Cornwall Bank and the Union Bank of Australia began in 1837 with the acquisition of the Tamar Bank founded in 1834.

Both banks developed over the years similar, with the Bank of Australasia, more zuwendete the industrial sector and the Union Bank of Australia more saw their focus in rural areas. However, both banks covered with its widely ramified branch network in Australia from all business sectors and also engaged both in 1840 and 1864 in the newly established British colony of New Zealand in 1840.

After 1951

After the merger, to Australia and New Zealand Bank Limited, the bank started its expansion in the Asian and Pacific region, founded in 1966, a bank in the Solomon Islands, opened an office in New York in 1968 and a year later in Tokyo.

In 1970, with the then largest merger in Australian banking history, the Australia and New Zealand Bank Limited merged with the English, Scottish and Australian Bank Limited and formed the basis for the still existing group of companies. The merger was completed under the legislation of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Act 1970 and had after the merger of the companies in London, are registered using the relevant legislation in Australia and New Zealand.

As has been the foundation of the two colonial banks Bank of Australasia and the Union Bank of Australia Limited, registered office and the headquarters were still in London and the main banking business in Australia and New Zealand. This should change with the relocation of the headquarters of the newly created Bank Group in 1977. New headquarters of the company was the former Australian headquarters in Melbourne, Victoria.

In 1971 an office was opened in Malaysia in 1979 took over one the Bank of Adelaide, opened a branch each in Singapore and New York and bought 1984 Grindlays Bank to do so. After the opening of offices in Bangkok and Thailand, and the acquisition of the operations of Barclays Bank in Fiji and Vanuatu, the Bank received a license to open a branch in Frankfurt.

This was followed by opening of branches in 1988 in Paris and in the Cook Islands. 1989 sold the New Zealand Government in its privatization efforts, the state-owned postal bank for 665 million NZ $ to the group. After another bank acquisitions in 1990 and 1991, we expanded towards the Philippines in 1993 to Shanghai in China, Hanoi in Vietnam, Tonga and Indonesia and finally opened in 1997 a branch in Beijing.

2003 was the acquisition of the National Bank of New Zealand through the acquisition of Lloyds TSB and was transferred on 26 June 2004 in the existing ANZ Banking Group (New Zealand) Limited. Two days later, from the ANZ National Bank Limited.

The new $ 15 million AU expensive company logo was presented by CEO Mike Smith at the headquarters of the bank in Melbourne on 22 October 2009.
