Azillanet

Azillanet ( Occitan: Asilhanet ) is a commune with 426 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Hérault in the Languedoc- Roussillon region.

Location

It is located in the countryside of the Minervois, about 40 km ( driving distance ) north-east of Carcassonne; of Narbonne is approximately 35 km in a north-westerly direction. The neighboring Cesseras is located only two kilometers to the west; the old and worth catharism Minerve is located about five kilometers north. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Haut Languedoc.

Demographics

In the 19th century it was always between 500 and about 800 inhabitants. The phylloxera crisis and the mechanization of agriculture resulted in the first half of the 20th century to a significant population decline, which stabilizes only slowly.

History
