Brendan Kelly (bishop)

Brendan Kelly (Irish Ó Ceallaigh Breandán, born May 20, 1946 in Ballinakill, County Galway ) is a Roman Catholic bishop in Ireland.

Life

Kelly attended the Craughwell National School and St. Mary's College, 1959 to 1964. Afterwards he moved in 1964 to the St. Patrick 's College, Maynooth, where he studied Roman Catholic theology. Kelly reached the Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Divinity. Then he studied at University College Galway. On June 20, 1971 Kelly was ordained by Bishop Michael Browne for the Diocese of Galway priest. Kelly was later active in Kinvara as a curator and taught from 1972 to 1980 at Coláiste Einde and 1980-1986 at Our Lady 's College, Gort. By 1995, he was then president of college. In 1996 he went to France for a year in the parish Cuise -la -Motte as chaplain and was on his return Priests from Lisdoonvarna. As of 2003, Kelly was a priest of the parish Spiddal and vicar general in the diocese of Galway since 2005.

Pope Benedict XVI. Kelly appointed on 20 November 2007 as Bishop of Achonry. On 27 January 2008 he received by the Archbishop of Armagh, Cardinal Seán Brady episcopal ordination. Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Tuam, Michael Neary, and his predecessor, Bishop Thomas Flynn.
