Chuuk State

Chuuk is a state of the Federated States of Micronesia. It includes numerous islands and atolls in the western Pacific Ocean.

Geography

Generally

The state of Chuuk is located in the Midwest of the Federated States of Micronesia. It covers a sea area in which to east for about 660 km from north to south and extends up to 240 km from West. The westernmost point of land located in the Chuuk Puluwat Atoll, the most easterly in Lukunor Atoll.

In the center of the area are the Chuuk Atoll ( Chuuk Islands), which the state is named. In Moen, in the east of the lagoon of Truk Atoll, is Chuuks capital of Weno.

Chuuk is adjacent to the Micronesian states of Yap and Pohnpei in the west to the east.

Islands and atolls

For Chuuk State includes 294 islands and atolls.

In the center of the state is the great atoll of Chuuk (formerly Truk ) to the main island Moen and other relatively large islands in the lagoon. The nearby uninhabited atoll Neoch is grouped with the central islands, as it belongs to the municipality of Chuuk Uman in the lagoon.

The outer islands and atolls spread over two large statistical Island regions, with the following atolls and island groups:

  • Mortlocks ( in the southeast ) Losap ( Atoll )
  • Nama (Island )
  • Namoluk ( Atoll )
  • Mortlock Islands
  • Oksoritod ( north and west ) the atoll Namonuito
  • Hall Islands
  • Pattiw, a sub- region with the atolls Pulap and Puluwat and the island Pulusuk
