Houk ( other name: Pulusuk ) is a small coral island in the archipelago of the Caroline Islands in the central Pacific Ocean. Politically, it is part of the State of Chuuk of the Federated States of Micronesia.

Geography

Houk is relatively isolated in the southwest of the state, around 245 kilometers southwest of Chuuk Atoll; the next land mass is Puluwat, 73 km north from Houk located. The island is located on the Korallensaum in the extreme southeast of Manila Reefs, a largely submerged, around 330 km ² atoll complex. Houk itself is 3 km long, up to 1.2 km wide and has an area of ​​2.8 km ². The island has a dense vegetation and has a small brackish water lagoon in the north.

Management

The island belongs to the statistical Oksoritod island region, sub-region Pattiw, and forms a separate municipality with a population of 451 in 2000. Residents speak Puluwatesisch, one related to the Chuukesischen Micronesian language.
