Etal (Atoll)

Etal ( sometimes Ettal ) is an atoll in the group of the archipelago of the Caroline Islands belonging Mortlock in the central Pacific Ocean. Politically, it is part of the State of Chuuk of the Federated States of Micronesia, where it is counted for statistical Island Region Mortlocks.

Geography

Etal is located 6 km north of the adjacent, much larger atoll Satawan and 14 km northwest of also belonging to the Mortlock Islands atoll Lukunor. From Chuuk Atoll in the center of the state, it is located 245 km to the southeast. Et al has the shape of a rounded triangle having a length of 6.5 km and a maximum width of 4 km. The area of ​​the lagoon is about 16 km ² of land area, however, only 1.9 km ². The atoll consists of 17 islands, which are mostly situated on the eastern and northeastern Korallensaum. The only inhabited with 97 hectares largest island Etal is in the southeast of the atoll, the second largest island is Parang in the far north. Isolated in the West is Unon. Etal forms a separate municipality with 267 inhabitants (as of 2000). The islands are thickly covered with coconut palms and breadfruit trees.
