Edward Lindberg

Edward Ferdinand Jacob Lindberg ( born November 9, 1886 in Cherokee, Iowa, † February 1978 in Highland Park, Illinois) was an American track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

He grew up in his birthplace Cherikee, the son of an immigrant family from Sweden. 1909 and 1911, he won the AAU championships each about 440 yards, making him qualified to participate in the upcoming Olympics.

In the V. Summer Olympics in Stockholm in 1912 he won the bronze medal in the 400 - meter dash, behind the Americans Charles Reidpath (Gold ) and the German Hanns Braun ( Silver) as well as the team gold medal in the 4-by- 400 - meter relay, along with his teammates Mel Sheppard, Ted Meredith and Charles Reidpath, before the teams from France ( silver ) and Great Britain (bronze). The team at this run simultaneously with a time of 3:16,6 min a new world record.
