Maxie Parks

Maxie Parks (actually: Maxwell Lander Parks; born July 9, 1951) is a retired American sprinter who was successful in the 1970s in the 400 -meter run.

He won two national championships ( 1976, 44.82 s, 45.15 s, 1978 ). In addition, a third place in 1977 ( 45.81 s ) and a fourth place in 1973 ( 45.9 s )

In 1976 he won the Olympic excretion in 45.38 sec.

After winning the U.S. elimination fights in 45.38 s, he started at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. Like his compatriots Fred Newhouse and Herman Frazier he reached the final and was in 45.24 s fifth, while Newhouse and Frazier won the silver and bronze medals.

All three athletes then performed together with Benny Brown in the 4 x 400 - meter relay. With Parks as a cage rotor, the team won in 3:58,65 min superior to the gold medal ahead of Poland ( silver in 3:01,43 min).

Maxie Parks started in his college time for the University of California, Los Angeles. As a member of a relevant organizing Indoor Championships at the university level committees he is still connected to the sport.
