Estézargues

Estézargues is a commune with 477 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Gard of the Languedoc -Roussillon region.

Geography

The community is located between the 26 km distant Nîmes and 16 km from Avignon. The municipal area is elongated in a north-south direction very long. Neighboring municipalities are Valliguières in the north, Théziers in the south, Saint- Hilaire- d'Ozilhan and Fournès in the west and Domazan and Rochefort -du -Gard in the east.

History

Finds of flint (1800 BC ) and ancient vases suggest that the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The village was later made ​​several neighboring farms. A representation of Bacchus and Ariadne from the 2nd or 3rd century was found in 1896 at Estézargues. Since 1620, the village appeared under its present name.
