The 34th Euro Vision Song Contest, officially launched this year Concours Euro Vision Song Contest, found on May 6, 1989 at the Palais de Beaulieu in Lausanne. Cyprus participated again. For Germany, the singer Nino de Angelo took part with the title aviator who landed in 14th place again. The host was better with Viver senza tei of Furbaz, the first and so far only song in Romansh for ESC, 13th place position. Austria came up with only a song by Thomas Forstner 5th place

Yugoslavia succeeded this time the victory. For Germany commented Thomas Gottschalk. A mishap happened when William Tell Show Part. The arrow crossbow chain reaction missed the apple scarce, so that the artist turned away briefly and hides the arrow stuck in the apple. In slow motion then the successful attempt of the sample was shown. Also this year there was even a score of zero, this time for the contribution from Iceland. At the Grand Prix in 1989 sent two Countries to the competition. France sent a girl of eleven, Israel a twelve year old boy into the race; the following year put the EBU, the minimum age of the performer at 16 years up.
