Fayetteville FireAntz

The Fayetteville FireAntz are an American ice hockey team from Fayetteville, North Carolina. The team plays since 2004 in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

History

The team was founded in 2002 under the name Cape Fear Fire Antz as a franchise of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. They replaced the Fayetteville in Fayetteville Force, which had competed from 1997 to 2001 in the Central Hockey League. In the ACHL they occupied in its premiere season in fifth place after the regular season, so they missed the playoffs. When the league was disbanded after only one year, the team of the South East Hockey League joined. Also this League was only a year long active, so that the FireAntz 2004 joined the Southern Professional Hockey League contest succession. Originally named after the nahegelengen Cape Fear River team was renamed the occasion of their new leagues change in Fayetteville FireAntz.

In the SPHL in which they play since then, reached the Fayetteville FireAntz in the season 2006/ 07 their greatest success when they their championship, the President's Cup win. In the finals, they had won against the Jacksonville Barracudas in the best- of-five series 3-1 victories. Last Fayetteville was in the 2008/ 09 season in the playoff final, but it lost to the Knoxville Ice Bears.
