History

After the 1962/63 season descended straight from the DDR - Oberliga team of SC activists Brieske - Senftenberg was delegated to Cottbus and joined the newly founded there SC Cottbus. As a second football team of the new sports clubs the outsourced team of BSG acted locomotive Cottbus. The aim of the SC Cottbus was talent to concentrate in the club and replace local rivals ASG Vorwärts Cottbus strongest football club. After this plan had failed, the football section was spun off in 1966 from the Sports Club and joined the newly founded on January 31, 1966 Sports Association Energie Cottbus. The name " energy " got the new BSG Bodo Krautz, one of 450 Lusatian sports fans, who participated in the naming process for the Cottbus footballer with a reader contest the Lusatian Rundschau. The former district Cottbus was with several power plants and lignite mines as an energy producer. When, after the political changes of 1989 and the economic changes associated with the system of company sports teams could not be continued, established members of the BSG football section on 1 July 1990 FC Energie Cottbus.

Sporting events

Until 1991

Before the Fall of the Wall played Energie Cottbus 21 years in the GDR - League and managed for six years the leap into the DDR - Oberliga. The first ascent succeeded on July 7, 1973, secured by a gate of the later club manager Klaus Stabach in the Oberliga promotion round against the ASG Vorwärts Stralsund (final score 1:1). Because energy had to leave by party decision permanently to BFC Dynamo Berlin after the best talent and was treated only incidentally in the signing of players as SPAs, the Lusatian could not keep mostly in the big leagues. So was followed by four times (1974, 1976, 1982 and 1987) after the rise of direct relegated again. Only in 1989 was the first league to be cheered. A milestone in the club's history, which triggered a true soccer boom in Cottbus. Behind the SG Dynamo Dresden and F. C. Hansa Rostock energy could have the third highest average attendance of the GDR. With a seventh place in the penultimate league 1989/90 season the team was allowed to begin the following year in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Only the penultimate position was obtainable in the past DDR Oberliga season 1990 /91 now reunified Germany.

1991-1997

By placing in the last GDR Oberliga season was the season 1991/92 only the inclusion in the league, then the third highest division. The 1993/94 season ended energy but as a table runner and thus took part in the rise playing for Bundesliga 2. There failed energy while at the competition from Zwickau and Brandenburg, but had qualified through the good table space for the newly created Regional. At the beginning of the first season Regional undertook Energie Cottbus Eduard Geyer, who then managed an uncanny series. FC Energie remained in 57 competitive matches without defeat and finished the season 1996/97 as a table first with 82 points. In two dramatic ascent games against Hannover 96 this well-established team placed against the ex - national league by surprise and managed in 1997 to move up to the 2nd Bundesliga. Just a week after that was energy as the second amateur club in German football history at all in the DFB Cup final at Berlin's Olympic Stadium, but which then is beaten against with his " magic triangle " ( Balakov Bobic and Elber ) Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart 0-2 was lost.

1997-2009

Three years after promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga succeeded energy with " Ede " Geyer promotion to the Bundesliga. In 2000, the Cottbus reach the big jump in the upper house of German football. Twice creates the FCE against many predictions sensational in the league before the Kirch crisis rocked the German football and its financing. After a tumultuous season energy rose in 2003 for three years to the 2nd Bundesliga from. On April 6, 2001, Energie Cottbus in the game against VfL Wolfsburg, the first Bundesliga club, who in his starting line-up had only foreign players.

From the season 2003/ 04 played Cottbus in the Bundesliga 2, the promotion to the Bundesliga in 2004 just missed the fourth. Points with the third for Mainz 05 failed the FC Energie hair's breadth only by an inferior goal difference to seven goals. The following season, 2004/05 relegation to the Regionalliga under the new coach in November 2004 Petrik Sander was due to a better goal difference a goal against relegated Eintracht Trier narrowly avoided.

The 2005/06 season was then dominated by the descent prevention; a re-emergence in the Bundesliga had been officially issued not as a goal for the season. But on the final day, the team secured a 3-1 against TSV 1860 München third place in the table and thus the return to the Bundesliga. In the season 2006/ 07 Cottbus played temporarily to higher places than just to avoid relegation. At that end of the season was Sergiu Radu with 14 goals ranked fifth scorer of the best players of Cottbus. FC Energie secured the league in tight end season with 13th place ahead by a 2-1 in the home match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. But the fifth Bundesliga season began under difficult sign. After a 1-2 home defeat against VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday sixth the following season coach Petrik Sander was on leave, his team had taken just two points so far. A few days later the Slovenian Bojan Prašnikar was unveiled as his successor. On February 16, 2008 Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel became an honorary member of the association. Even after the back half of the season 2007/ 08 was trembling energy initially, but could even say the only team in the league with a 2-0 victory to zero over the league leaders Bayern Munich. Matchday 33 Season 2007/ 08 was secured with a 2-0 home victory over HSV to remain in the first division in 14th place behind Borussia Dortmund. The date last Bundesliga season 2008/ 09 ended the FC Energie Cottbus as a 16 on the back newly introduced relegation place and had two defeats against 1 FC Nuremberg, descending the third-placed 2nd Bundesliga. The coach Bojan Prašnikar broke up his contract and was replaced by Claus -Dieter Wollitz.

Since 2009

After reinforcements during the summer break (including Markus Brzenska, Marc -André Kruska and Sergiu Radu ) explained the FC energy in the 2nd Bundesliga season 2009/10, its chances of promotion as an official goal for the season. In the beginning was the energy demands and achieved good results against other aspirants rise, eventually they played in the upper middle of the league.

The 2010/11 season began torreich with the second place on the sixth matchday. The strong offensive should hold throughout the season and even set club records. It achieved a highest ever victory at FC Energie Cottbus in professional football ( 6-0 (2-0) against FC Erzgebirge Aue ) and the 5:5 ( 2:4 ) against Karlsruher SC to a 2:5 residue so far in the 2nd Bundesliga not yet played result. Striker Nils Petersen developed here with 25 hits to the top scorer in the league, he was lured away to the end of the season from Bayern Munich. A weakening defense, however, was responsible for the fact that you can only reached the 6th place in the table at the end of the season. In the DFB-Pokal was in the season with victories against first division side SC Freiburg ( 2-1 H), TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (1-0 H) and VfL Wolfsburg ( 3-1 A) reached the semi-finals. There, they lost but at MSV Duisburg 1-2.

2011/12 subject to the FC energy to kick off the season in the first round of the DFB Cup in the third division Holstein Kiel 0-3. This could not connect to the successful Cup round of pre-season one. Also in the league could after four wins in five games, FC Energie Cottbus not take the expected role. After 17 days of play club was only in ninth place in the middle of the league. Coach Claus -Dieter Wollitz then asked for the dissolution of his contract. He led both sports, as well as personal reasons as to why. His successor at 1 January 2012 was Rudi Bommer, who moved to Cottbus from SV Wacker Burghausen. The team finished after a weak second half finally ranked 14th season. Particularly disappointing was the fact that the team had lost many points in the last minute ( and Others v Fortuna Dusseldorf FSV Frankfurt and Hansa Rostock) and the league thus able to secure only on the final day.

On 27 March 2012, the Association of German sports journalists announced that Energie Cottbus has been awarded the Fair Play Trophy. The reason for the award was the prudent behavior of the power players and fans on 13 March 2011 at the League against VfL Osnabrück, Osnabrück as the Flamur Kastrati injured during the game at the head and spine. The Cottbus decided then to launch any more offensive actions.

After a solid start to the season 2013/2014 the team of Rudi Bommer came in the fall of 2013 increasingly in danger of relegation. After a 0-1 home defeat against VfL Bochum and the associated sliding on table space 17 Bommer was dismissed by those responsible. As successors of the club presented on November 6, 2013 Stephan Schmidt, who had been in charge of before 2012 to 2013 for the SC Paderborn 07. Schmidt received a contract until the summer of 2015. However, no improvement occurred under a Schmidt. After 9 games Schmidt has already been released again from his duties. Cottbus could of the 9 games to win a single and took only one point by a draw.

League membership

The ascent and descent behavior of energy is - although hardly noticed by the national media - has become known amongst fans as the three-year rule. The club managed to make it from 1987 to 2009 every three years is six times either exactly or descended. These were as follows:

* = 1994, the regional leagues were reintroduced. Due to the good ranking of the season 1993/94 (2nd place), the rise could be achieved.

This rule lasted 25 years. After the optimistic three-year rule, which is a special case of the general three-year rule, energy never rises into the third- highest division (and thus not lower). The class change done always in the direction of the next- highest division. In the case of the Bundesliga this therefore means a descent to the 2nd Bundesliga. This three -year rule also kept 25 years, apart from the transition in the wake of the turning process ( NOFV- Oberliga Nordost to Oberliga Nordost mid-1991 ). Only in the season 2011/12 broke through energy this rule by consecutively reached the league in the 2nd Bundesliga for the third time.

Friendships and rivalries

Rivalry between the clubs in East Germany

There are rivalries with other clubs from East Germany, especially with Dynamo Dresden, Hansa Rostock and Hertha BSC. The reason for this rivalry is not justified for special events, but rather is based on the claim of the various teams, to be number one in the east. Especially the games against Hertha BSC are characterized by particularly volatile.

VfB Stuttgart

Some fans of the FCE maintain a fan-made friendship with the followers of VfB Stuttgart. The first friendships were formed in the DFB - Pokal 1996/97, when the then Regional team was able to advance from Cottbus as a complete surprise to the finals. There, they lost while VfB Stuttgart 2-0 (1-0 ), but still in the finals was celebrated extensively with the Stuttgart. The friendship strengthened on the final day of the Bundesliga season 2002/ 03, as the already relegated team from Cottbus was able to achieve a draw at Borussia Dortmund. This unexpected result VfB Stuttgart could advance to second place in the final table and thus qualifying directly for the Champions League.

VfL Osnabrück

Since 13 March 2011, the supporters of FC Energie also maintains a friendship with fans of VfL Osnabrück, after Flamur Kastrati, at the time attackers in Osnabrück, in a challenge with Markus Brzenska a serious injury drew upon the neck. Kastrati had to be repeatedly revived and was then transported for further treatment in the Cottbus Carl- Thiem -Klinikum. However, the referee did not whistle the game from the game, although both captains had asked, as only a few minutes to play. Osnabrück was at the time back to 0:2 and most likely would have lost. Both teams included a kind of non-aggression pact and played the ball to just yet. Brzenska was not punished by the DFB, as he denied the fair duel with Kastrati and the injury came about unhappy. The supporters of both teams paid tribute to the emergency services and the ( non-) games, the player with a standing ovation. Flamur Kastrati came on back in the game against Karlsruher SC already less than three weeks after his injury on April 1, 2011. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with Kastrati the 1-1 shot.

1 FC Union Berlin

In some cases for many years, but increasingly since the rise of Berlin, maintain trailers and isolated Ultra - groups from 1 FC Union Berlin in touch with the Cottbusern. Even with the game from FC Energie against Hertha was seen in the guest block fans from Union Berlin, which probably is due to the part of Berlin to a dislike of the West Berlin city rivals Hertha BSC.

Songs

Since 2006, the song is football is here from the project Pimp your Hometown official club anthem. The song was written by several local music groups and sounds during the invasion of the players in the stadium. Before the song was energy, we are there as never before of the culprit, the official energy anthem.
