Football in Mexico

In Mexico, the sport of football developed mainly in the capital as well as the neighboring states of Hidalgo, Mexico, Morelos and Puebla. Further, in the east of the capital lying coastal state of Veracruz, and in the westerly states of Guanajuato, Michoacán and - especially - in Jalisco. To that extent the metropolitan area, the most successful Mexican football teams concentrated in a radius of about 600 kilometers to the capital. In the north of the country were - probably due to the geographical proximity to the U.S. - sports such as baseball and basketball is always more popular than football. In this region, the cities of Monterrey ( Nuevo León) and Torreón could only ( Coahuila ) with clubs Monterrey, UANL Tigres and Santos Laguna establish themselves as firm favorites and recorded a total of eleven championship titles. Totally neglected soccer fields have traditionally been the two peninsulas in the far west of Baja California and Yucatán in the far east of the country. The latter peninsula since the relocation of the former capital club Atlante in spring 2007 to Cancun (Quintana Roo ) houses but also a first division side, who even immediately won a championship title at his new place of work.

Football in the regions

Politically, there is Mexico from 31 states and the Federal District, thus making a total of 32 geographic areas. For simplicity, the Federal District, the internal capital district, are discussed in the following text as a federal state. Because the focus of this article is the importance of football in the 32 geographical units Mexico or concrete, it is the most successful clubs of the respective federal state.

From 13 states (including the Federal District ) so far came at least a championship team, another 7 states were represented División already by at least one team in the Primera. 10 Of the remaining 12 states can nevertheless at least a second division team in the Primera founded in 1994/95 Liga A or its successor Liga de Ascenso show. Only the two states of Campeche and Baja California Sur have never been represented by a team in the top two leagues.

Based on this, the article is divided into four sections. In the first part of the 13 states are treated that have spawned one or more national champion. The second part deals with the other seven states that were at least previously been represented in the Primera División. The third part discusses the ten states that were not yet represented in the top division, but at least as early as the second-rate La Liga ' A' and today's Liga de Ascenso. Finally, the last part deals with the two states whose clubs are not yet progressed beyond the third division.

The order in which the states are called within the respective category which is determined by their success quotient which arises from the following table. To apply in the first part as a successful, who has produced more champion teams. Case of a tie, the state takes the higher rank, who has achieved more (current) first division (as of and including 2011/12 season ). In the second part will be deemed successful, whoever can show a longer Erstligazugehörigkeit (as including season 2011 /12). In section 3, the order also determined on the basis of years of league membership (as of and including 2011/12 season ). Given the same length league affiliation of the state gets the better position, which is currently represented in the Liga de Ascenso. If this is not - as in the comparison between Oaxaca and Tabasco - the balance of the clubs will be applied. Thus, Oaxaca gets a better classification: Cruz Azul Oaxaca was runner-up after all the Apertura 2005, while the associations of Tabasco have never been out on the quarter-finals. In addition, the associations from Oaxaca have (thanks to Cruz Azul ), total won more games than lost; in Tabasco, this was reversed. In Part 4, the ranking on the basis of belonging to the third-tier Segunda División determined.

Within the states, the clubs are ranked according to their importance for the respective state. Thus, the order determined in the first part on the number won championship titles. If tied decides - as in general in the second to fourth part - the duration of league affiliation. Given the same length league affiliation, the team is always listed first, which is currently still represented in the league. If this is not the case, the order determined by the chronology of appearance in the relevant league.

A club, only the title and the years of League membership allocated in the respective category, which he has won during the time when he was at home in the appropriate state. Accordingly, the first two of the eight are Hidalgo league titles, won the Cruz Azul, slammed and the other six the Distrito Federal. The same applies for Atlante: their titles from the years 1947 and 1993 are considered for the Federal District, the recent success of December 2007, however, for Quintana Roo.
